Case Studies on the Intradermal Healing Needle

by David Ortlieb

Case 1

A doctor in Sichuan, southeast of China reported a case of a appendicitis attack. The patient was afraid to go for an appendectomy.  The doctor suggested that he be treated with the Intradermal Healing Needle. By inserting four needles: above, below, left and right of the painful area on the lower left quadrant, and soon as the application was completed, the pain was gone. The needles were retained for twentyfour hours. Report by the physician that the patient was observed twentyfour hours later, 48 hours later and again a week later. Examination of the patient showed complete recovery.

Case 2

Male, twenty years old, was hospitalized under number 231785. He had been suffering pain for two years and had experienced more severe in the last week. From April of 1996, the in-patient felt swelling pain, acid regurgitation and belching from his upper abdomen, especially after dinner. After he received treatment of Western and Chinese Medicine, at times he felt better but at others times he did not. During spring festival, he ate too many fatty foods and he felt more severe pain as well as heat in the left abdomen. An examination showed no problem in his heart and lung but there was tenderness in his left upper and lower abdomen, and in the middle abdomen especially around acupoint Zhongwan(ren 12). The gastroscope showed he suffered chronic superficial gastritis and bile regurgitation. The Intradermal Healing Needle was inserted two cun below Zhongwan and he felt no pain. The needle was withdrawn after four hours. The next day he felt slight pain in his left upper abdomen. Another Intradermal Healing Needle was placed one cun left of Zhongwan and the pain disappeared at once .The needle, again, was retained for twentyfour hours. He was then observed for five days and discharged from the hospital with no symptoms. Follow up four months later showed no recurrence.

Case 3

Male, thirty years old and was hospitalized under number 231785. He became an in-patient for suffering hemiparalysis and headache for fourteen hours as well as swelling in the upper abdomen along with poor appetite, and melena for three hours. The CT scan showed he had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and the gastroscope showed gastritis haemorrhagica. After an operation, the hemiparalysis and the headache improved but the disorder in the upper abdomen remained, even after Western medication had been taken. In the examination, it was discovered that the most severe tenderness located on the acupoint Taiyi (ST 23). A Intradermal Healing Needle was inserted three cun left of Taiyi. The pain and swelling disappeared immediately. The needle was retained for twentyfour hours. The patient's appetite improved and the melena symptoms disappeared. Follow up after three months indicated that there was no recurrence.

Case 4

Male, occupation butcher. Diagnosis tennis elbow, Western medicine applied with no response. An orthopedic surgeon diagnosed no cure and recommended him to quit his job. Main complaints included pain, poor sleep, numbness, and soreness for 20 years. Two treatments of regular acupuncture with massage and moxabustion proved only twenty five percent improvement. A month later the patient came in again and received an Intradermal Healing Needle below the joint from the sensitive area. Seventy five percent improvement was observed; however, it was determined that it was not satisfactory. The Intradermal Healing Needle was withdrawn and placed above the joint. It achieved one hundred percent success and there was no more pain. Follow up a day later, it was reported that there is still no pain and his sleep had improved. A week later some discomfort appeared, so a second treatment of Intradermal Healing Needle was given. The pain subsided and with follow up eight months later showed no more pain.
